Naples to Sorrento by car: route, timing and tips

Sorrento sits at the start of the Sorrento peninsula, facing Vesuvius across the Bay of Naples. It is one of the most popular bases in southern Italy: close to Capri, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, with hotels for every budget and a lively centre.

The route

From Naples Airport or Napoli Centrale, the driver takes the A3 motorway south past Vesuvius and Pompeii to Castellammare di Stabia. From there, the coast road follows the Bay of Naples through Vico Equense to Sorrento, with sea views for the last part of the drive.

How long it takes

On a normal day the transfer takes 1 to 1.5 hours. On summer weekends, holidays and at rush hour around Naples, allow up to 2 hours. For an early flight home, we suggest a pick-up time with a comfortable margin when you book your return.

Where we meet you in Naples

At Naples Airport your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign; at Napoli Centrale, outside platform 24. For hotels and apartments in Naples, the driver contacts you on WhatsApp a few minutes before arriving. We monitor your flight or train and adjust if you are late.

A stop in Pompeii on the way

Pompeii is right on the route, about halfway between Naples and Sorrento. A 2-hour visit, plus 30 minutes free, can be added for €120 per vehicle (€60 per extra hour), a popular way to use arrival day; entrance tickets and guides are not included.
