The guide

Salerno: a practical base for the Amalfi Coast

Salerno is the largest city on the gulf of the same name, about 55 km south of Naples. Many visitors only pass through it, but it is a comfortable place to stay: a long seafront promenade, an old town full of trattorias, the Cathedral of San Matteo and, in winter, the Luci d'Artista light festival.

Why stay in Salerno

Hotels in Salerno are often easier to book than on the Amalfi Coast, especially in high season, and the city has a main railway station with high-speed trains. From here, the east side of the coast starts just a few minutes away at Vietri sul Mare, the town of hand-painted ceramics.

Day trips from Salerno

In the warmer months, ferries connect Salerno with Amalfi, Positano and Capri. To the south, the Greek temples of Paestum are one of the best-preserved ancient sites in Italy. We can take you to both, or plan a private Amalfi Coast tour with pick-up at your hotel in Salerno.

Where we meet you in Naples

At Naples Airport your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign; at Napoli Centrale, outside platform 24. For hotels and apartments, the driver contacts you on WhatsApp a few minutes before arriving.
